The Pierre Governors knew they had their backs against the wall to host a SoDak 16 playoff game, but still controlled their destiny to host. The Govs won the final two games against teams above them in the standings and will now host the O’Gorman Knights Saturday for a spot in the state tournament.
The two teams played an overtime thriller back on Friday, Jan. 27, but it was the Knights with a 68-64 win. It was the second straight over time loss for the Govs and pushed them to 7-5 on the season. Pierre would finish the year going 6-2 including a win over Roosevelt and Jefferson, who both were above them in the standings to now host as the six seed. O’Gorman dropped to the 11 seed after Sturgis beat Douglas on Monday. Pierre will look to avenge its loss to the Knights to reach the state tournament for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
Tip off from Riggs High School will be at 3:00 on Saturday. DT Meyer and Blake Dean will have the call on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
