State Archive To Close To In-Person Use March 10th

PIERRE — One week from today, changes will be made at the Cultural Heritage Center as work will start soon on a massive renovation of the facility. The archives research room will close to in-person research visits on March 10th. However, the archives will continue to provide research services to the public through email, mail and telephone requests throughout the renovation. Archive staff will continue to be active; accepting donations, processing collections, cataloging books, digitizing materials and providing outreach. After March 10, researchers can call 605-773-3804 to request research services. The State Historical Society will close to the public March 25th. Staff is working to prepare artifacts for storage during the renovation. Fifty percent of the artifacts are off exhibit. Further details about how to see the artifacts will be announced in the coming months as some displays will be set-up in museums around South Dakota.
