Oahe Capitals Play First Game on Friday at State Tournament

Friday morning, the Oahe Capitals will play the first game of the girls state tournament as they take on the Brookings Rangers in the 3-6 matchup in Sioux Falls.

The Caps ended the regular season on a strong note winning six of the last eight games and nearly finished in the fifth seed. However, Rushmore had two wins over Mitchell to then jump into the four seed and the Marlins falling to the five seed. Now, the Caps will face the Rangers in the first round to kick off the 2023 tournament. The Capitals dropped both games to Brookings with a 5-1 and 4-1 loss both on the road and at home. Both games were early on in the season before the turn around started for the Caps. Jim Wedin, head coach of the Oahe Capitals says it’s going to be tough against Brookings to open up the tournament, but he likes the challenge…

The Capital Girls 14U team won the state championship two weeks ago and the confidence level is rising with the team and Wedin likes being the underdog heading into the state tournament…

For the Caps to have a successful tournament, Wedin says it’s the same message as it has been all year…

The game is set for puck drop at 9:00 AM on Friday. Coverage will begin at 8:45 on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with all 11 games to be broadcasted over the weekend.
