Charger Boys Hoops Season Comes to an End in Highmore

The Sully Buttes Charger boys came close, but couldn’t overcome the Highmore Harrold Pirates low post size, and fell 58-53 Tuesday night at the Hyde County Auditorium in Highmore.

The Chargers came in as the seventh seed, with the veteran Pirates, now at 14-7, defended their home court as the second seed in Region 6B. Highmore Harrold also used their veteran presence with senior Mason Knox scoring 21 points, while fellow senior Bryce Bourk hit for 13 points. It was junior Trake Cowan that could not be stopped in the low post, scoring 14 points, and helped give the Pirates a big advantage both offensively and defensively rebounding the ball.

The Chargers led 30-28 at the half, but were outscored 14-7 in the third quarter, with Highmore Harrold taking a 42-37 lead. Despite ten three point shots by Sully Buttes, the Pirates prevailed in the end by eating up the clock, and keeping the ball out of the Chargers hands.

Sully Buttes finishes the season at 6-15, while Highmore Harrold will play host to Ipswich, who knocked off Faulkton Area 67-52 in Ipswich. That game is Friday night, while the other side of the Region 6B bracket, top seed Lower Brule cruised to a 84-61 victory over Potter County, and Herreid Selby needed overtime to knock off Lyman 69-67 in Presho. The Sioux and Wolverines will also play Friday night.
