Free Throws Down the Stretch Key in Governor Wins over Jefferson

The Pierre Governors will both be at home for the SoDak 16 this weekend as the Pierre boys and girls would beat the Jefferson Cavaliers on Monday to wrap up the regular season.

The Governor girls, on senior night, would win a high flying, high tempo game 65-58 hitting 13 of 16 free throws to close out the win. Lennix DuPris and Ryann Barry each had 16 to lead the Governors who never trailed in the game en route to a 17-3 record to close the year. Remi Price had 14 and Reese Terwilliger had eight for the Govs.

In the boys game, Pierre needed the win to have a home SoDak 16 game and did so with a 84-73 victory over Jefferson on the road. Both teams avenged its SoDak 16 losses from last season. Ben Heisler had 26 points as Pierre also hit 16-18 free throws in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Jackson Edman had 23 and Lincoln Kienholz finished with 19 as the Govs wrap up the regular season at 13-7 and jump up to the six seed in the AA standings.

The Governor girls will host Brookings in the 2-15 matchup on Friday and the boys will host O’Gorman in the 6-11 matchup on Saturday, both at the Riggs High School gym. Both games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports to watch.
