The Oahe Capitals got all three wins over the weekend to close the year at 18-3-0-1 and finish in third place in the league defeating the Rushmore Thunder on Sunday 3-2.
The Capitals wasted no time on Friday against the Huron All Stars jumping out to a 6-0 lead at the end of the first period and win 15-2 over the All Stars. Both Keegan Kitts and Luke Miller scored their first varsity goals as Jonny Lyons recorded a hat trick and Ashton Griese would get a seven point night and notching his 200th career point as a Capital becoming only the fifth Cap to ever accomplish the feat.
Then on Saturday, the Capitals had to come back from a 2-0 deficit as Barrett Schweitzer and Devin Dodson would both score two goals in the 4-3 win over the Watertown Lakers.
On Sunday, Oahe had two goals from Aiden Dozark 15 seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period. Two goals from the Rushmore Thunder tied it early on in the second period, but it was Ayden Behm scoring on a rebound, his first varsity career goal, to be the difference maker and game winner as the Caps would hold on in the third with a 3-2. Colin Lee would win all three games and finish with 18 wins on the season playing in every game for Oahe.
With the win, the Capitals move into third place in the standings and will face Sioux Falls 2, the six seed in the first round of the state tournament. The game will kick off the tournament at 9:00 AM on Friday, March 10 with all 11 games of the weekend on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports.
