The Sully Buttes Charger girls finally got to play their first game of the postseason, and came away with a 54-36 victory over Ipswich to advance to the Region 6B semifinals Saturday night. The Chargers showed some rust in the game after missing two days of school and practice, but came out and took care of business, and were led in scoring by Lydia Hill with 19 points, and Stevie Wittler, finishing with 18 for the 18-3 Chargers. For Ipswich, sophomore Gabby Wald led with 18 points, as the Tigers’ season came to an end with a mark of 6-16.
The Sully Buttes Charger boys toasted the team seniors before the start of the game in the final home game of the regular season, and picked up a 78-65 win over North Central in the nightcap. Seniors Landon Hepker and Marshall Wittler scored 18 and 11 points respectively, but it was freshman Wesley Wittler who was tops in the scorebook, finishing with 28–including four 3 point shots. North Central kept chipping away at the Chargers lead, thanks to 12-3 pointers, but couldn’t shake the turnover bug, and fell to 1-19 on the season. The Chargers up their mark to 6-14, and will start post season play Tuesday on the road against an-as of yet-unnamed opponent.
The Charger girls will have no room to relax, as they’ll play Herreid Selby Area Saturday night in Onida. The Wolverines defeated Lower Brule 69-62 to advance. Herreid Selby Area and Sully Buttes played in Onida February 7th, with the Chargers picking up a 45-37 victory. The game will be broadcast Saturday night on Country 95.3FM.
