Oahe Capitals Peewee B, Girls 14U Win State Championships

Two of the three teams playing in the state tournaments this weekend are coming back to the Pierre/Ft. Pierre area with state titles. The Girls 14U team and the Peewee B team both would win on Sunday to win state.

The Capital 14U team came in as the two seed and allowed just two goals all weekend en route to the state championship. The Capitals beat Brookings 5-1 to finish out the championship on Sunday as Oahe opened up a 2-0 lead and would never trail in the tournament. It’s the first state championship for the girls hockey program in Capitals history.

The Peewee B showed why they were the league champions as they rolled to a running clock win in both first and second round games. Then in the state championship, the Caps lead 3-2 over Sioux Falls 1 after the first period and would finish the win scoring three goals in the third period to beat the Flyers 8-6 to win another Peewee championship. The Capitals program won a Peewee championship last season.

The Peewee C would fall in the third place game but would still finish in fourth place to close out a strong weekend for Capitals hockey. The Oahe Bantam B team will play in the state tournament next weekend as the eight seed in Rapid City.
