Melting Snows Make Slight Improvements In Drought Monitor For South Dakota

PIERRE — Melting winter snow is starting to show up on the U-S Drought Monitor for South Dakota. Nearly all of the extreme drought in southeast South Dakota has been removed and replaced with D-2 severe drought. A small part of extreme southern Union County is still in extreme drought. Severe drought remains in southwest Fall River County. Severe drought is also located in parts of Corson, Campbell, McPhereson and Walworth County. Severe drought is also still located in Beadle, Jerauld, Sanborn, Aurora and Davison Counties. Severe drought has been eliminated in southern Lyman and Brule Counties. Hughes County is 100-percent abnormally dry while Stanley County has two-percent moderate drought in the extreme northwest corn. Moderate drought is noted in much of Dewey, Ziebach, Jackson, Potter, Tripp and Brule Counties. Most of Lyman, Sully and Hyde are abnormally dry along with all of Mellette, Jones, Buffalo and much of Hand Counties
