The Pierre Governors were unable to lead at any point in the game on Thursday on the road in Mitchell as the Kernels picked up the ESD win 62-55.
Pierre had the game tied at 4-4 early in the first quarter and that was the last time it was tied for the night. Mitchell opened up a 12 point lead at the end of the first quarter but the Governors were able to pull within a possession multiple times in the second half although unable to tie or take the lead. Lincoln Kienholz would score 25 points on the night, the game high, with 18 coming in the second half. Ben Heisler would finish with 11 and Jackson Edman with 10 as the Govs fall to 11-7 on the season. Mitchell was led Markus Talley with 16 points while Steele Morgan had 14, Dylan Soulek with 11 and Charlie McCardle had 10. The Kernels went 9-9 from the free throw line including going 4-4 in the fourth quarter. Mitchell improves to 13-4 on the year.
Pierre will travel to face undefeated Jefferson on Tuesday to begin the final week of the season. Tip off from Jefferson high school is scheduled for 7:00.
