Pierre City Commission Gives Final Approval To Commercial Landscaping Ordinance Changes

PIERRE — The Pierre City Commission has given final approval to changes in the city’s commercial landscaping ordinance. A public hearing on the ordinance revision was held Tuesday night with no public comment. Parks and Recreation Director Bryan Tipton says there has been little input on the effort…

Commissioner Jamie Huizenga, sitting in as meeting chair for Mayor Steve Harding, says he was contacted by a contractor about the changes…

Huizenga says he thinks the city’s ordinances on landscaping on commercial properties now works for all interested parties…

The new ordinance uses a point system in that 10-percent of the total square footage of a required property must be comprised of green space; to include trees, shrubs and grasses. Trees are not required as long as the point system is met for the property in question. City officials will work with property owners to make sure the ordinance provisions are met.
