Load Limits To Go In Place Friday On Highway 1806

PIERRE — The warm, late winter weather of the last few weeks has prompted the first load restrictions on state highways from the South Dakota Department of Transportation. A 41 mile section of South Dakota Highway 1806 from South Dakota Highway 273 in Lyman County to U-S Highway 83 south of Fort Pierre has a six-ton per axle limit. Highway 1806, for 27 miles, from the west side of the Oahe Dam to Mission Ridge has a seven-ton per-axle weight limit. Weight limits will also be in effect on sections U-S Highway 16-A and South Dakota Highway 87, 89, 40 and 79 in the Rapid City region. The load restriction will become effective on Friday February 17th. More information on spring road restrictions can be found on the South Dakota Truck Info website at sdtruckinfo.sd.gov. Violating a load restriction is a Class Two Misdemeanor in South Dakota.
