Chargers Salvage Split at Mobridge-Pollock Thursday

The Sully Buttes Charger girls started strong, but stumbled across the finish line, and held on for a 48-44 victory over the Mobridge-Pollock Lady Tigers Thursday night in Mobridge, while the Charger boys just couldn’t hit shots down the stretch and fell to the Tigers 50-39.

The Charger girls played flawless defense, and ran their offense to perfection in the first half, and led 28-8 at halftime, but turned the ball over 20 times against an aggressive Lady Tiger defense in the second half, and needed shots at the free throw line to seal the victory. Stevie Wittler once again led all scorers with 17 points, while Addyson Chicoine worked the low post, and hit seven of nine free throws for the game to help push Sully Buttes’ record to 14-2. The Lady Tigers top scorer for the night was Mariah Goehring(Garing) with 14 for 11-5 Mobridge-Pollock.

The Charger boys meanwhile played a patient offense and tight defense to start, but the Tiger offense kept Sully Buttes at arms’ length to push their record to 9-6, while Sully Buttes drops to 4-12. Midway through the second quarter, a technical foul was called on Sully Buttes with the score sitting at a 23-20 Tiger lead, and at the half the Tigers led 33-25. Leading in scoring for the Charger boys was Wesley Wittler with 15, and Landon Hepker with 12, while Mobridge Pollock saw Michael Wald end his night with 18 points–15 in the first half.
