The Sully Buttes Chargers came away with two tightly contested games in a girls- boys doubleheader at Harold Thune Auditorium Tuesday night.
Stevie Wittler helped pace the Charger attack offensively, and the Charger defense did enough to hold off Jones County 47-44 in the first game. Wittler took control in the first half with fast break baskets, while Calleigh Chicoine added three threes, as the 11-2 Chargers tried their best to stop dynamic seniors Jadyn Jensen and Mallory Valburg, who scored 21 points each on the night. Wittler finished with 23 points, and Chicoine added nine. With the loss, Jones County slips to 9-2 on the season.
In the nightcap, the Charger boys picked up their second win of the season against ten losses by beating the Coyotes 57-54. Senior Landon Hepker once again showed his game composure by scoring 18 points and distributing the ball from the top of the key, while freshman Wesley Wittler found his shot in the second half on the way to 20 points for the night.
Jones County was led in scoring by Jett Nix, who finished with 20 for the 7-8 Coyotes, while center Cooper Feddersen added 10. The young Coyotes start two freshmen and three sophomores for coach David Hunt.
The Chargers have a home doubleheader Friday night against Potter County. Also that night, Alexis Yackley-Warner is inducted into the Sully Buttes Hall of Fame.
