Pierre Wrestling Shuts Out Yankton, Drops to Brandon Valley

The Pierre Governor boys wrestling team didn’t allow a single point against the Yankton Bucks Thursday afternoon with an 84-0 win, but would fall to Brandon Valley 42-24 to close out the night in its first loss of the season.

The Governors either had a forfeit win or a pinfall win against the Bucks in every single weight class to at the time improve to 9-0 on the season. Then to start the Brandon Valley dual off, Gavin Stotts and Elijah Boutchee each had a pin to quickly give the Govs a 12-0 advantage. After that, it was eight straight wins by Brandon Valley including two pins and a tech fall to give the Lynx a 17-12 lead in which they would never surrender. Chase Carda, Deegan Houska and Chance Carda all picked up wins in three of the last four matches, but it was too little too late as the Govs drop to 9-1 on the year.

The girls would defeat Yankton 6-3 in just a three match dual and then run past the Lynx with a 42-3 win.

The Governor wrestling teams will be in Brookings on Saturday with the tournament beginning at 9:00 AM.
