Governor Girls Get Road Win, Boys Fall in Overtime

The Pierre Governor girls made a statement on Friday night with a road victory against O’Gorman while the Governor boys dropped its second straight game in overtime, this time at home.

The Governor girls, without Ayvrie Kaiser and Lennix DuPris, picked up a road victory over O’Gorman 57-46. Pierre had the lead after each quarter and extended a one point advantage after the first to a 12 point 29-17 lead at the half. Pierre held OG to just six points in the second quarter. Pierre is now at 10-2 on the season beating a team inside the top six in the AA standings as they prepare for Harrisburg on Tuesday, on the road again.

The Governor boys overcame an eight point second half deficit to force overtime for the second straight game, but it was the Knights with a 68-64 win to snap a five game losing streak. It’s now Pierre’s third loss in the last four games and the three losses have been by a combined seven points. Benjamin Heisler had a strong second half for the Govs scoring 17 of his 19 in the third quarter on. Matthew Eng for O’Gorman was deadly from beyond the arc, knocking down seven threes and scoring a game high 29 points for the now 4-8 Knights. Lincoln Kienholz had 14 and Jackson Edman had 11 for the three Govs in double figures. Pierre drops to 7-5 on the season.

The Governor boys will host Harrisburg in a varsity game only on Saturday. Tip off is at 3:00 from Riggs High School in Pierre.
