ABO School District to Update Gym, Honor Former Coach and Teacher

The A-B-O School District met earlier this month and introduced a refurbishing plan for the gym and multi-purpose area that will go into effect in the 2023-2024 school year, provided they get adequate bids for the extensive project.

For the first time in 30 years, A-B-O School plans to refinish gym floors, relocate existing logos, incorporate logos into the floor design, update and upgrade the HVAC system, paint walls, and install new scoreboards that feature players numbers on the floor for both home and visitor teams, along with individual points and fouls, individualized and personalized team names for home and visiting teams, time outs available, along with game time, quarter game is in, and player foul and number of fouls.

The school also will name the floor in honor of former coach Mark Senftner, who passed away in October of 2022. Senftner coached football and girls basketball for 17 years at Sully Buttes school, and wife Lynn and son Scott still teach in the A-B-O system. The gym floor will be brightened up, with a new center logo, darker wood highlights inside the three point arc, and feature Senftners’ signature on opposite ends and sides of the court itself.

The entire project is estimated to cost over $138,000, with funds used to accomplish this project shared in part by private donations, and school budgeted upgrades. The committee is comprised of school board and community members.
