After Slow Start, Sully Buttes Girls Roar Back, Roll Wildcats

In a tale of two halves, the Sully Buttes Charger girls trailed 13-8 at the end of the first quarter–after that, they put the pedal to the metal, and outscored the young Northwestern Wildcats 44-26, and came away with a 52-39 victory Saturday afternoon at the Redfield Holiday Classic.

The game was tied at 23 apiece at halftime, but after the break the Chargers got more aggressive on defense and moved the ball more quickly in the second half. Leading the way once again, Lydia Hill found rhythm in the paint to finish with 22 points, while Stevie Wittler added 13 with ten of those points coming in the first half. Big three point shots by Calleigh Chicoine, and key baskets by Caitlin Birney and Allyson Wittler gave the Chargers more offensive contributions, and the Wildcats couldn’t slow them down.

On the offensive end, the Wildcats had their low post scoring taken away in the second half, and had a few three point shots drop late in the game, but by then their fate was decided.

Next up for the 6-0 Chargers is a girls boys doubleheader Monday at home against Aberdeen Roncalli. DT Meyer will have the call of the doubleheader on Country 95.3, pierrecountry.com and on YouTube at Country 95.3 Sports.
