Capitals Comeback Comes up Short in Rapid City

The Oahe Capitals would score two goals late in the third period trying to erase a three goal deficit, but came up just short in a 4-3 loss to the Rushmore Thunder on Saturday in Rapid City.

The Thunder were able to score the first two goals of the game, capitalizing on its lone power play to lead 2-0 before Barrett Schweitzer would score a goal with 50 seconds remaining in the period to pull the Caps within one at 2-1. In the second period, the Thunder would strike early on the power play and add another goal to go up 4-1 heading into the third period. Ashton Griese would score on the power play under five minutes in the third and Jarron Beck would make it a 4-3 game with just over two minutes remaining, but the comeback came up short as the tensions boiled over on a high hit on Beck still left the Capitals shorthanded in the final seconds.

Oahe falls to 6-2 on the season as Rushmore improves to 5-0. Oahe will have next weekend off before traveling to Sioux Falls on Friday, Jan. 20 for a match up against Sioux Falls 2.
