The Highmore Harrold Pirates showed their veteran savvy on the court, and the Sully Buttes Chargers made it easier for them by turning the ball over too many times en route to a 66-52 Pirate victory Thursday night at the Hyde County Auditorium in Highmore.
It was parents night for the hometown Pirates, and the pressure defense, crisp passing, and ball movement by senior led Highmore Harrold was too much for the younger Chargers to handle. Sully Buttes had 28 turnovers by a conservative estimate, and when they did get into the offensive zone seemed disjointed.
Leading the way for the Pirates was Treyton Knox, who finished with 18 points, while Dawson Hale added 15 for the 5-1 Pirates. Highmore Harrold had four of it’s five starters in double figures.
The stumbling Chargers were led once again by Landon Hepker, who finished with 19 points before fouling out late in the final quarter, while Wesley Wittler added 13.
Next up for the Chargers is a girls-boys doubleheader Monday against Class A Aberdeen Roncalli, and following that, have three more games by Saturday. The Pirates play Tuesday at Faulkton against the Trojans.
