Tuesday night it was back on the road once again for the Sully Buttes Charger girls basketball team, and once again the Chargers came away with a 53-23 victory over Philip in yet another physical game.
The Chargers blanked the Lady Scotties 13-0 after one, and led 21-6 at the half. While Philip played a ball hawking defense, they couldn’t find any offensive rhythm, thanks to a Sully Buttes stout defense.
Sully Buttes figured out a good offensive pattern in the second half, with quick passing and ball movement, and that helped them crack the Lady Scotties 1-3-1 defense. Leading the way in scoring for the Chargers once again was Lydia Hill, who battled in the low post throughout the night, finished with 17 points, and Stevie Wittler who faced continuous double team pressure up and down the court, contributed 15 points. The Lady Scotties were led in scoring by both Drew Terkildsen and Josie Jones each adding six points apiece.
The continious clock was enacted midway through the fourth quarter to speed up the game.
The 4-0 Chargers will now get a mini break, to gear up for three games in the next six days, home versus Highmore Harrold Friday night, at the Holiday Classic in Redfield Saturday afternoon against Northwestern and a girls-boys doubleheader Monday against Class A powerhouse Aberdeen Roncalli.
The 2-2 Philip Lady Scotties have a game Friday in Bison against the Cardinals, Saturday afternoon in Oelrichs facing the Tigers and Monday at home against the Stanley County Lady Buffs.
