Chargers Earn Split on the Road against Lyman

The Sully Buttes Charger girls and boys basketball teams traveled to Presho for a girls boys doubleheader against Lyman Monday night in a makeup game from earlier last month, and came away with a Charger girls 46-34 victory, while the Sully Buttes boys fell to the Raiders 56-47 at the historic Lyman Gardens Arena.

In the first game, both teams had troubles getting any offense going, and were tied 17-17 at the half. But the Charger girls found more success in the low post play of Lydia Hill, and Sully Buttes led 32-30 after three quarters. Allyson Wittler also had a strong performance for the Chargers–scoring 11 points, while Hill led the way with 16 points. Both Mac Scott and Skyler Volmer had 14 points each for the 0-3 Raiders.

In the boys game, Sully Buttes was ice cold from the field and line, and despite numerous turnovers by the Raiders, the Chargers couldn’t sustain any offense. The Raiders led 28-20 at the half, and while the Chargers worked hard, were outscored 28-27 in the second half, thanks to big three point shots by Cooper Long  with three three point shots, while Teagan Gourneau added two-treys.  Long finished with 16 points, while Damian Abrahamson chipped in with 13.  For the Chargers, Landon Hepker came alive with 26 points, while Wesley Wittler had seven points.

The Charger boys-now 0-2 on the season, will be on the road again Thursday, in a road contest against Highmore Harrold, while the Raiders will host Gregory Thursday night.

For the girls, the 3-0 Chargers will be back on the court Tuesday night in Philip, to take on the Philip Lady Scotties. The Raiders will also take on Gregory in a girls boys doubleheader Thursday night.
