Weekend with Hardly Any Sports

Weekend with Hardly Any Sports

Winter weather played its hand longer than first anticipated and the sports world in South Dakota paid for it. Competitions except the LNI were canceled all throughout the weekend which includes Pierre, Sully Buttes and the Oahe Capitals.

For the Governors, both basketball games were postponed and now the schedule flip flops who they play first as it will now be Pierre vs. Spearfish on Friday, Dec. 30 and Pierre vs. Sturgis on Saturday, Dec. 31. The girls will host and the boys will travel. The JV wrestling teams, girls wrestling team and the gymnastics competition over the weekend have all been canceled and will not be rescheduled.

For Sully Buttes, the Charger girls were scheduled to face Herreid/Selby Area but it has been postponed to Feb. 7 as part of a boys and girls doubleheader now. The Charger boys are waiting even longer to play its first game as the game against Winner on Saturday was also postponed. It will now be played on Friday, Dec. 30.

The Oahe Capital girls game in Aberdeen on Friday was moved to Friday, Feb. 10 while Sunday’s game was still played. The Capital boys were unable to play either game this weekend and the make up dates are still to be determined.

Sports resume on Tuesday to wrap up before a moratorium over the Christmas weekend.
