Both the boys and girls basketball teams would have successful weekends at the Governor girls would beat both Rapid City schools on the road and the boys at home.
Friday night the Governor girls would jump out to an 11 point lead over Rapid City Stevens 34-23 and beat the Raiders 58-46. Remington Price would finish with 14 points while Ryann Barry had 13 points and Reese Terwilliger finished with a double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 boards.
On Saturday, the Governors to a 62-35 win over Rapid City Central to start the season at 2-0. Another three players had double figures as Terwilliger and Ayvrie Kaiser had 15 points while Price scored 12 points. Pierre has dominated its first two wins, avenging the losses from last year’s start to the season.
For the Governor boys, they put on a show this weekend. A total of seven dunks including six on Saturday as Pierre would roll to a 59-41 win on Friday over the Stevens Raiders and 71-44 over the Central Cobblers. Lincoln Kienholz would score 18 on Friday night while Jackson Edman, Benjamin Heisler and Carson Ahartz each had nine for Pierre. Kienholz would follow up the next day with a 21 point outing and throwing down a slam. Heisler would finish with 19 points and had three dunks on the afternoon.
Both Governor teams are 2-0 to start the season, and both will now play on Friday and Saturday against Sturgis and Spearfish. The boys will travel and the girls will host. Friday’s girls’ game will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
