Capitals Pick up Point in First Weekend

The Oahe Capitals girls varsity team would fall to Mitchell 4-2 Friday night and then tie the Rushmore Thunder 4-4 on Saturday to earn one point out of a possible four this weekend.

The final team to get the season underway saw six goals find the back of the net on the weekend as four different Capitals would score. On Friday, the Capitals had goals from Elliot Bertsch and Emily Nemec as the Caps would pull within 3-2 in the third period, but a late power play goal in the final minute gave the Marlins a 4-2 victory as Brynlee Sabers recorded a hat trick.

On Saturday, Brylee Kafka would score two goals while Cami Larson and Nemec would score her second of the weekend. Oahe had a 3-1 lead and a 4-2 advantage in the third period, but a last minute goal by the Thunder would force overtime. Sophia Peschong stopped 20 shots on 24 attempts and had just one save in overtime as the 10 minute extra session would end in a tie.

The Capitals will travel to Aberdeen on Friday and then to Sioux Falls on Sunday next weekend. The Sunday game will be on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports.
