Pierre Wrestling Finishes Early Season Tournament with Girls First, Boys Second

The Pierre Governor wrestling team would finish in the top two of the team scores in Mandan tournament this weekend as the girls would win the tournament and the boys second.

The Pierre girls had four champions on the weekend as Sydney Uhrig would win in 110 weight class, Gianna Stangeland in the 135, Abbi Lewis in the 145 and Ireland Templeton in the 155. Templeton would beat teammate Hattie Baldwin in the championship round for Pierre. While the Govs had four winners, they also finished with another four runner-ups including Baldwin. Shaylee Speck in the 105, Dani Ringstmeyer in the 130 and Marlee Shorter in the 190 all placed second. Pierre scored a 241 as a team beating Legacy who had a 207 for first place.

On the Pierre boys side, Gavin Stotts in the 195 and Josh Rydberg in the 285 both would win their respective weight class championships on the weekend. Alex Oedekoven in the 113, Trey Lewis in the 170 and Chance Carda in the 182 all placed second over the weekend while Tristan Spencer in the 138, Deegan Houska in the 160 and Elijah Boutchee in the 220 placed third. Pierre scored a 278 which was good for second place, but it was the Sturgis Scoopers who placed first with a 312.
