Brookings Blanks Capitals for First Loss of Season

The Brookings Rangers would have everything go right and nothing go right for the Oahe Capitals on Saturday as the Rangers shutout the Caps 8-0 for Oahe’s first loss.

The Rangers would score two power play goals in the first period. Owen Schneider and Luke Honkomp each scored assisted by Zach Struck as the Rangers took a 2-0 lead after the first period. Breck Hirrschoff scored two second period goals as the Rangers in total scored four goals in the second to start run time with a 6-0. Struck would finish a hat trick in the third period to lead the Rangers to a 3-2 record moving over .500 for the first time all year and dropping the Capitals for the first time this season. The Rangers went 4-10 on the power play while the Caps went 0-4. Colin Lee made 26 saves in net for the Caps. Kade Brecher had 14 saves for his second shutout of the season.

The Capitals will travel to Sioux Center on Saturday and Sunday next weekend to take on the Storm. The first game will be at 4:30 on Saturday and 11:45 on Sunday. Both will be available to listen to on Capital City Rock and to watch on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports.
