PIERRE — The Pierre Police Department is the latest entity to be targeted by scammers. Captain Bryan Walz says the Department has received knowledge of a person, or persons calling area residents claiming to be a member of the police department working a confidential case. The scammers are providing callers with contact information from actual Pierre Police Department employees. Caller ID information comes up as unknown when the calls are being made and the callers are speaking with a foreign accent. Walz does know what the scammers are trying to get from those who are calling. Walz says anyone who gets such a call should not provide any information to the caller. Anyone questioning whether the call is legitimate should call the Pierre Police Department at 605-773-7410 for verification.
