Pierre Survives Stevens’ Rally to Win Consolation Semifinals

It would take all five sets, but the Pierre Governors would hang out to defeat the Stevens Raiders on Friday to reach the consolation championship with scores of 25-20, 25-21, 19-25, 22-25, and 15-9.

The Governors stormed out to a 2-0 lead quickly over the Raiders and looked to be in control of the match. However, it was Stevens storming back as Carsyn Mettler and Isabell Higgins would lead the charge for Stevens. The two combined for 13 kills in the fourth set win to send it to a fifth and deciding set. Pierre trailed 5-4 in the fifth set but would score seven in a row to give Pierre a 11-5 advantage they wouldn’t let it go. Reese Terwilliger would again lead the way with 14 kills for Pierre while Ayvrie Kaiser finished with 12. Campbell Boddicker had eight kills, but had four in the fifth set alone. Higgins would finish with the match high 15 kills while Macy Wathan had 13 and Mettler 12 to lead Stevens.

The Governors will face the winner of Huron or Lincoln in the consolation championship at 1:15 on Saturday. Coverage will start at 12:45 on KCCR and on online at kccrradio.com.
