Miller Completes Comeback to Survive First Round Contest

The Miller Rustlers would come back from an 0-2 deficit on Thursday in the first round of the state tournament to defeat the Platte-Geddes Black Panthers with scores of 24-26, 25-27, 25-17, 25-20 and 25-8.

The Rustlers were unable to finish in the first two sets, but came alive in sets three and four to flip the script for the win. Ally Mullaney had a match high 27 kills as Platte-Geddes didn’t have an answer for her attack. Abigail Blake finished with nine kills and Jaden Werdel with eight. Every Miller Rustler in the lineup had at least one kill on the night in the five set win. Tyra Gates picked up 47 assists to help lead the comeback for the Rustlers. Karly VanDerWerff had 22 kills and Cadence Van Zee had 19 to lead for Platte-Geddes as only four players had kills for the Black Panthers.

Miller improves to 33-2 on the season and will face winner of Elkton-Lake Benton and Belle Fourche at 5:00 on Friday.
