PIERRE — A Pierre man and a man from Renner have been identified by the South Dakota Highway Patrol as the two fatalities in a three vehicle crash in Minnehaha County last week. The crash happened Friday, November 11th around 12:40pm, three miles west of Sioux Falls. A 2005 Ford F-150 pick-up driven by 70 year-old Harry Jackson the Third of Pierre was eastbound on Interstate 90 when it rear-ended a 2019 Toyota Prius. Jackson lost control and entered the median where it continued into oncoming westbound traffic and struck a 2017 Dodge Ram pick-up pulling a gooseneck trailer. The driver of the Dodge is 34 year-old Scott Ahlers of Renner. Seat belt use by Jackson and Ahlers is under investigation. The occupants of the Prius, 74 year-old Elmer and Shelly Aakre of Vermillion were using seat belts and were not injured in the crash. The crash caused the temporary closure of westbound Interstate 90 for a time.
