Rural Hughes, Stanley County Voters Oppose Medicaid Expansion Vote Despite Statewide Victory

PIERRE — South Dakota votes approved expanding Medicaid on a 56 to 44-percent margin. In Hughes County urban voters favored expansion while rural voters did not. The vote center in Blunt saw 53-percent of voters opposing expanding Medicate while voters at the Harrold vote center were opposed by 67-percent. Absentee voters approved Amendment A with 61-percent approval. The same showed true in Stanley County. Precinct One is in Fort Pierre and voters there approved Medicaid expansion on a close 51- to 48-percent margin. Precinct Two, the McQuistion Farmstead on Highway 1806 northwest of Fort Pierre; voters opposed Amendment A by 58-percent. In Precinct Three, the Hayes Hall in Hayes; Amendment A was opposed by 56-percent. Amendment A was approved in Ziebach, Dewey, Jackson, Mellette, Lyman, Brule, Buffalo and Hand Counties. It was voted down in Haakon, Jones. Sully, Potter, and Hyde County.
