Callahan Wins One Of Four Central South Dakota Sheriff Races Tuesday

PIERRE — Hughes County Sheriff Patrick Callahan will remain seated as Sheriff for the next four years. Callahan defeated Independent candidate and former Jones County Sheriff John Weber 58-percent to 42-percent. Callahan won each of Hughes County’s six vote centers. He won 60-percent of absentee ballots. The largest win for Callahan was at the Harrold vote center where 76-percent voted for the incumbent and only 23-percent for Weber. Other central South Dakota Sheriff races included wins by Lyman County incumbent Sheriff Steve Manger and Potter County Sheriff Curt Hamburger. Manger won with 84-percent of the vote and Hamburger 91-percent. In Haakon County, Fred Koester beat Timothy Quinn 63-percent to 37-percent. In Dewey County, Independent Ashley Arpan defeated Jeff Ward 821 to 712 with 54-percent of the vote.
