Jones County and Freeman Battle in Class B SoDak 16

The Jones County Coyotes have just one loss on the season and are just one more win away from punching a ticket to the Class B state tournament as they face Freeman in the SoDak 16 match.

The Coyotes, at 30-1, received the five seed into the SoDak 16 and take on a young and talented Freeman Flyers who are at 20-9. The Flyers have just two seniors on this year’s team, but are still led by the two seniors Erin Uecker and Kate Miller. Miller leads the team in kills with 285 this season while Uecker is second on the team at 177. Uecker and Miller also lead the team in blocks as they stand at 5’11 and 5’10 respectively. The Flyers mix in juniors Cami Fransen, Ava Anderson and freshman Vaida Ammann as three setters with over 100 assists through the year.

Jones County counters with a senior heavy team with four seniors leading the way in kills as Mallory Valburg, Jadyn Jensen, Kendal Kinsley and Emma Hunt all have over 100 kills as Valburg is at 299 heading into tonight. Peyton Rankin is the Coyote setter and while averaging eight assists per set, she could reach 700 assists for the season by the end of the night. Jones County beat Crazy Horse and Wall to reach the SoDak 16 with its only loss of the season coming against Bell Fourche on Oct. 15.
