Governors Route Sturgis in First Round Victory

The Pierre Governors opened up a 35 point lead at halftime which resulted in a running clock and a quick victory 42-14 over Sturgis in the first round of the 11AA playoffs.

The Governors returned the opening kick 85 yards to the house as Jayden Wiebe picked up his second kick return for a touchdown this season. It set the tone for the Governors on the night. Lincoln Kienholz would throw for a 169 yards and four scores as Brecken Krueger, Jack Merkwan, Jett Zabel and Cade Kaiser each had a receiving touchdown. Kienholz also had a nine yard touchdown run to lead the Govs to the win. The defense for Pierre would have three interceptions as Wiebe would intercept a pass and Chase Carda would pick off two throws from Owen Cass. Tyan Buus, the Scooper top receiver was held without a catch in the game as he had just two targets in the ballgame.

Pierre will face the Yankton Bucks after its 49-14 win over Brookings. Coverage will be a half hour before kickoff next Friday on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
