Pop-Up Clinics Point Of Discussion For Medical Marijuana Oversight Committee

PIERRE — The I-M 26 Oversight Committee held it’s second meeting Tuesday at the State Capitol in Pierre. One area that brought discussion about South Dakota’s fledgling medical marijuana program was the use of so-called pop-up clinics to help patients get cards that will permit someone to use marijuana for medical treatments. Pierre Police Captain Bryan Walz is on the Committee and questions the role of such clinics…

South Dakota Health Secretary Joan Adam says she had gotten an invitation from someone on the street in Vermillion last weekend to sign up for a medical card…in a bar….

Melissa Mentele, drafter of Initiated Measure 26, says the pop-up clinics are a result of health systems not getting involved in the medical marijuana program…

The Committee forwarded two draft bills to the legislature’s Executive Board.
