Governors Hang on to Survive Tea Area

The Pierre Governors and Tea Area Titans came down to the final play of the game again as the Governors intercepted a Hail Mary pass in the end zone to defeat Tea 35-30 Friday night.

Pierre and Tea each would go three and out in their first possessions before the Govs would have its first score on a 50 yard connection from Lincoln Kienholz to Brecken Krueger to give the Govs the lead. The teams would trade touchdowns as Kienholz would run one in from 72 yards and throw a six yard pass to Jack Merkwan before Tea finished the half with a 49 yard field goal from Chase Van Tol to make it a 21-17 game at the break.

Tea would take its first lead of the game on the opening drive of the half, but it would be answered by on a 20 yard touchdown pass from Kienholz to Jayden Wiebe snagging his first receiving touchdown of the season to give Pierre a 28-24 lead. After a Kienholz 53 yard run to give the Govs an 11 point lead Tea would go down the field and score to cut the deficit to 35-30 with under a minute to play. The Titans would recover the onside kick and have one final play, a Hail Mary which was tipped into the hands of Kienholz in the end zone to finish the win for the Govs to improve to 8-0.

Kienholz would run and pass for over 200 yards each in the win as seven different receivers would make a catch. Gavin Stotts would lead the team with 17 tackles on the night for the Governors.
