Pierre Governors Travel to Harrisburg for Quarterfinals

The Pierre Governor soccer team will be in Harrisburg on Saturday as the Govs face the top seeded Tigers in the quarterfinals after a 3-2 overtime win over Mitchell on Tuesday.

The Tigers come in with a win over Yankton in the 1-16 matchup on Tuesday with a 5-1 victory. Abby Flangan had two goals to lead the Tigers while Haillee Christensen had three assists for Harrisburg. As the Governors know in the first meeting, the Tigers run through Christensen, arguably the best player in the state. She has 30 goals and 17 assists which is apart of over half of the 85 goals scored for the Tigers this season. In the 6-1 win over the Governors earlier in the season Christensen had two goals and three assists to lead the Tigers. Ryan Barry scored the lone Govs goal in the loss. However, the Governors come in having three different goal scorers in the 3-2 win on Tuesday and Pierre will look to spread the ball around again and limit the small mistakes. Head coach of the Pierre Governors Kira Swenson says score of the first game against Harrisburg isn’t indicative of how much closer the game was…

Swenson likes the depth the Governors have had over the course of the season and it was shown on Tuesday…

Swenson says they need to stay sharp for the entire match…

The Governors and Tigers will have kickoff at 1:00 Saturday from Harrisburg with pregame beginning at 12:40 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Mendel Miller on the call.
