The Pierre Governor girls soccer team is headed to the quarterfinals after a 3-2 overtime win, while the Governor boys fell 3-1 to Rapid City Stevens as the season came to an end.
The Governor girls scored a quick goal in each half as Ellie Hughes put the Govs on top 1-0 eight minutes into the contest. Mitchell would answer as Mia Mullenmeister would tie the game at 1-1 heading into halftime. Bria Sargent ran up on a loose ball and fired it passed the keeper to make it 2-1 not even two minutes into the second half, but again Mitchell would answer with a tying goal to send the game to overtime. In the first overtime session, Jasmine Jost would beat the Kernel keeper to her left and net the eventual game winner as she scored with 2:47 remaining. Pierre would hold on to get the win and advance to take on Harrisburg on Saturday.
The Governor boys played to a 1-1 draw in the first half as Rylan Derry fired a shot on a free kick to give Pierre its lone goal. However, the Govs were unable to get any more offense as the Raiders would net two second half goals to hold off the Governors attempt at an upset bid. The boys finish the season at 7-5-2, the best record for any Pierre boys team.
