Governors Storm Back from 0-2 Hole to Defeat Huron

The Pierre Governors capped off an incredible day as the volleyball team turned an 0-2 deficit into a five set win over the Huron Tigers on Tuesday at Riggs High School.

The Huron Tigers took the first two sets 25-19 and 25-21 and while they didn’t look clean, the Governors had to do some soul searching. They answered the bell. The Governors dominated the third and fourth sets with 25-15 and 25-12 wins to send the match into a fifth and deciding set. The Govs again were down 14-12 in the fifth set before answer back with three straight points to take a 15-14 lead. The teams traded points until Makenna Schlekeway slammed home the match winner to secure the 11th win of the season for Pierre.

Reese Terwilliger led the way with 13 kills while Ayvrie Kaiser had nine kills and Lily Sanchez had eight. Makayla Sherwood had five kills and numerous big blocks through each set. Huron had 13 service errors but 10 of the 13 came in the first two sets which they won. The Tigers drop to 12-6 on the season.

Pierre will face Harrisburg on the road next Tuesday. First serve is at 7:00.
