Soccer Travels to Jefferson in First of Final Two Games

The Pierre Governor soccer teams will be in Sioux Falls on Saturday as they take on the Jefferson Cavaliers with just two games remaining in the regular season.

The Governor girls are coming off at 1-0 win over Yankton looking for its eighth win of the season while sitting in seventh place in the AA standings. The Governors have won back-to-back games after dropping two straight. Jefferson is in fourth place in the standings and tied Tea Area on Tuesday in a scoreless contest. However, Jefferson had won its previous games shutting out both O’Gorman and Huron.

The Governor boys will need to win both of its final two games to have a shot at hosting a home playoff game, but they face two of the top three teams trying to make it happen. The Governors fell to Yankton 4-2 on Tuesday. It was the first time all season the Governors scored two or more goals and didn’t win and also the first time Pierre has allowed more than two goals in a game. Jefferson is 5-3-1 and have been shutout in its last two contests falling in both 2-0 to Huron and Tea Area.

Coverage will begin at 12:40 on Saturday with kickoff at 1:00 for the girls game and then 3:00 for the boys game. Both games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Mendel Miller on the call.
