The Pierre Governor Soccer teams are down to its last three contests of the regular season with all three on the road. Today, the Governors face Yankton in a boys and girls doubleheader.
The Yankton Gazelles come in at 2-8-1 on the season and are still fighting for a spot in to the playoffs sitting in 15th place currently. In six of the eight losses Yankton has been shutout and lost 2-1 decisions to both Mitchell and Watertown. Yankton also tied O’Gorman who is currently in 12th place in the AA standings. The Governor girls will need a win to keep up in the top eight in the AA standings. Pierre is in seventh and no matter the outcome, will drop some seed points, however a loss would be detrimental to potentially hosting a first round round matchup.
The defending state champion Bucks are in 11th place in the AA standings coming into today’s contest at 5-4-2 but played the top team Huron to a 3-2 loss and shutout Mitchell 7-0 so the Bucks are starting to get on a roll. However, the Governors have already been on a roll. Pierre has won four in a row and have not loss in its last six games. Even so, Pierre is in ninth in the AA standings and will need a couple of wins over the last three games to ensure a home game in the first round of the playoffs.
Coverage of both games will still be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports. The girls match will kickoff at 4:00 with the boys to play at 6:00.
