It will be an early start time for the Pierre Governor soccer teams on Thursday as they welcome in Brookings for its homecoming match as the boys and girls varsity teams will play at the same time.
The Governor girls are looking to end its two game losing streak as they now are fighting for a top eight spot with just four games left to play in the season. After winning back-to-back games, the Brookings Bobcats dropped a 3-0 decision to the Lincoln Patriots on Tuesday. The Bobcats are now 3-5-1 on the season and come in at the 13th spot in the AA standings.
The Pierre boys have won three in a row and have not dropped a contest in its last five matches at 6-2-1 but are still fighting for a top eight spot and the schedule becomes much tougher in the final four games of the season. The Bobcats come in also at 3-5-1 after its loss on Tuesday to Lincoln in a 2-0 shutout. Brookings is sitting in 10th place in the AA standings so the potential is there for the Governors and Bobcats to play again in the first round of the playoffs.
Coverage will begin at 2:40 this afternoon for the girls game only with updates of the boys game throughout. Kickoff is at 3:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Mendel Miller on the call.
