Fort Pierre Man Sentenced For 8th DUI

FORT PIERRE — A Fort Pierre man is sentenced Tuesday for the eighth time on a Driving Under the Influence charge. Stanley County States Attorney Tom Maher says 46 year-old Craig Allen Joachim was convicted of the Class Four Felony Aggravated Driving Under the Influence. He was also sentenced on charges of Driving On A Revoked License and Open Container. In South Dakota, a D-U-I becomes a felony if two or more take place in a 10-year span. The D-U-I charge is the third in the last 10 years. Joachim has D-U-I convictions in 2000, 2002, 2005; two in 2006, 2012 and a D-U-I in 2021. Joachim was arrested this April with a blood-alcohol content test over three times the legal limit. Sixth Circuit Court Judge Margo Northup sentenced Joachim to a nine-year prison term, but suspended eight of those years. His license has been revoked for 10 years following his release from prison.
