The Pierre Varsity Fastpitch Softball team kicked the 2022 season off in style with a 14-2 victory over Baltic-Colman-Flandreau. Sheridan Nickolas was strong on the mound for Pierre only giving up one hit in 4 innings pitched. The offense backed her up with 10 hits. Jenna Bucholz jumped on the 1st pitch of her 2nd at-bat with a bases-clearing triple, and then recorded her 4th RBI of the game with an RBI single in her next plate appearance. Maya Shorter added further run support with a 3-run triple of her own.
The second game of the day was a hard-fought affair with Tea. Pierre’s Erin Leiferman pitched 6 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits. She also helped her cause by driving in 3 of Pierre’s 4 runs. Emma Hall chalked up Pierre’s last RBI with a hard hit single to right field. Unfortunately, Pierre came up on the short end of late-inning drama when Tea drove in 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to win the game 5-4.
Two JV squads each went 1-1 in their debut performance and Pierre also sent 3 middle school teams to Sioux Falls for opening day.
