Soccer Returns Home as girls Try to Turn Page and Boys to Continue to Roll

Both the Pierre Governor soccer teams are 2-1 as they return home for a couple of matches this week, first taking on the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles in an ESD contest today.

The Governor girls couldn’t find the offense last Thursday in Sioux Falls as they fell to Roosevelt 2-0 but are still averaging six goals a game through three matches so far this season. Today though, the Governors will see the biggest offensive threat of the young season in the Golden Eagles. Aberdeen Central comes in at 3-0-1 and have scored 25 goals through four games including a 7-0 shutout of Brookings on Saturday. As high powered as the offense is for the Golden Eagles, Aberdeen has allowed just three goals including two in the tie against Jefferson. Pierre will have to find its offense this afternoon while staying strong on the defensive side.

On the boys side, the Golden Eagles are 2-1-1 and have not scored since the first weekend of the season after defeating Douglas and Spearfish. Aberdeen Central tied Jefferson 0-0 and then fell to Brookings on Saturday 1-0. Aberdeen is currently at number three in the standings while the Governors are trying to climb from the 14th spot, however there will be a lot of shake up in the standings as the season goes on regardless of the outcome today. Pierre found its offense picking up over 30 shots on Thursday against Roosevelt and winning 4-0 over the Roughriders.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 for the girls contest and 6:00 for the boys from the PILC fields in Pierre.
