Pierre Volleyball Shakes off Rust, Defeats Watertown in Four Sets

The Watertown Arrows would take the first set in the opening match of the season against the Pierre Governors, but the Govs stormed back for a 3-1 win to begin the year.

Pierre would drop the first set 25-20 after not leading at any point in the entire set. The Govs only tied it at 20-20 before the Arrows would score the final five points. In the second set the Govs jumped out to an early lead and Ayvrie Kaiser had five of her six aces in the set as Pierre cruised to a 25-13 victory. Then it was Kaiser in the third set picking up a game high six kills in the set as she finished with 13, the only player in double digit kills. The Govs took the third set 25-20 and would hold on to defeat the Arrows in the fourth and final set 25-23 for the opening season win. Makenna Schlekeway had eight kills for Pierre while both Remi Price and Reese Terwilliger had seven each. Pierre finished with 10 aces but had 12 service errors in total. Watertown was led by Emily Tisher and Kendall Paulson each with eight kills.

The Governors will now take on both Rapid City Stevens and Central on Friday and Saturday. Both contests will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
