Sully Buttes, Stanley County Renew Rivalry to Begin Season

The high school football season gets underway this weekend and the Sully Buttes Chargers will be in Ft. Pierre on Friday to take on rival Stanley County Buffaloes.

The two teams were able to meet again for the first time in recent history as the Buffaloes dropped from 11-man to 9-man last season. The Buffaloes beat the Chargers 26-14 back in September. Now, the Buffs will have a new look to them as they graduate eight seniors including quarterback Lathan Prince. The Chargers graduated just three from last year’s team and return QB Landon Hepker for his senior campaign as Tom Moore makes his head coaching debut tonight at Ole Williamson Field. Moore says with the guys returning he’s expecting those veterans to lead the younger guys along…

Moore says they need to be able to adapt tonight especially being the first game of the year…

Max Foth, head coach of Stanley County knows he has a young team in front of him, but they’ve had success on their way growing up and he says it’s exciting…

Foth says they need to take care of the ball tonight…

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 tonight in Ft. Pierre. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on Country 95.3, pierrecountry.com and on YouTube at Country 95.3 Sports with DT Meyer, the voice of the Sully Buttes Chargers, on the call.
