Governor Soccer Split Doubleheader with Roosevelt

The Pierre Governor soccer teams split its two games on Thursday at Howard Wood against Roosevelt. The girls would fall 2-0, but the boys would shutout Roosevelt 4-0.

The Pierre Girls were unable to get the offense rolling for the first time this season. Roosevelt would score just five minutes into the game as Katie Spicer would find the back of the net on the third shot and give the Roughriders a quick 1-0 lead and they would hold onto for the first half outshooting Pierre 10-3. In the second half, Pierre would get its only shot on net as Ryann Barry’s shot was stopped. Taite Schaefer would score the second and final goal of the game which came with 26 minutes left in the half. Roosevelt would outshoot Pierre 14-8 in the ballgame as Peyton Dillman, the 7th grade goalie stopped five of the seven shots on target.

The Gov boys quickly peppered Dawson Aberson in net with 10 shots in the first 10 minutes of the game. Landon Bertram had a shot ricochet off a defender to score to give the Govs a 1-0 lead. Rylan Derry would score off a penalty kick late in the first half to give Pierre a 2-0 lead at the break outshooting the Roughriders 16-2. Derry would score off a rebound from Devon Flottmeyer and Cesar Ramirez put in the fourth goal off a Derry shot in the second half as the Govs dominated from start to finish. Pierre would outshoot the Roughriders 31-6 in the game as Carson Ahartz had to only make four saves in the game.

Pierre will return home and take on the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles on Tuesday. The girls will play first at 4:00 with the boys to follow at 6:00.
