With Plentiful Returning, Governors Have Eyes Set on State Title Run

The Pierre Governor football team has been no stranger to success and the group that has begun practice this week is also no stranger to the success the program has seen over the last five years.

The Governors will be looking for a sixth straight state championship and bring back a core of talent in skill positions as well as on the line. Pierre added North Dakota commit, Jason Maciejczak as he transferred in from Douglas for his senior season. Pierre will be the favorites heading into the 2022 season.

One of the favorite things for the Governors is the start of football practice which begins at Oahe downstream. From Monday through Wednesday, the Governors spent the days at downstream working, but most didn’t even deal with football. Steve Steele, head coach of the Pierre Governors says downstream is always a time the kids look forward to…

Steele says this group is concerned at chasing the sixth straight title…

Steele says this offense this year will be a lot of fun…

The Pierre Governors will open up the season at home on Saturday, August 27 against Aberdeen Central. KCCR will have coverage of Pierre football on the radio and available to watch on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
